took their third straight Centrobasket title.

Jose Ortiz collected his own rebound and scored the winning basket with
eight seconds left. Soterio Ramirez had put the Dominican in front on
the previous possession.

Finally the games
between favorites. Cuba won against Dominican Rep. 70-66, and Puerto
Rico defeated Panama 100-84.

The lack of pre-tournament practice really hurt Belize. In all three

In the first games seems that Puerto Rico and Cuba are
the main favorites. But Panama and Dominican Rep. could be dangerous
too.

Mexican NT falls to Panama 52-64 in their first game of Centrobasket
in Cuba.
The Mexicans let an 8 point advantage go away at the begining of the
second period to allow a 13-1 run for Panama at the game played on May
4. Mexico started with 17-year old Omar Quintero at the point, but was
quickly substituted by veteran Oscar Castellanos, giving Mexico more
mobility. Both teams' defenses were close, as the first half finished
with a score of 27-26 for Panama. Mexico moved ahead, putting the score
46-40 in their favor, but a 13-1 run by Panama closed the score for
them.
