Colombia celebrated title in Barranquilla. They overcame Cuba in overtime thriller to conquer the trophy. Yaneth Arias (184-F-82) posted 16 points and 9 rebounds to lead the winners. Cuba got to a confident start. They grabbed a 30:23 halftime lead. But Colombia used an 18:9 run in the third term to surge ahead. Cuba managed to deny the deficit in the fourth period and forced overtime. But Colombia sank 12 points in the extra period and got away with the victory. Mayra Caicedo (175-PG-00) had 13 points for the winners. Suchitel Avila (184-F/C-82) replied with 22 points and 9 rebounds for Cuba.
3-4 Place
Puerto Rico - Mexico 60-52
Ashley Perez (163-PG) scored 17 points to lead Puerto Rico past Mexico in the consolation final. Mexico enjoyed a narrow 29:27 halftime lead. But Puerto Rico went on a 20:9 rally in the third period to surge ahead. Mexico could not recover in the final quarter as Puerto Rico drove to the victory. Jazmon Gwathmey (188-G-93, college: JMU) had 9 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Gladiana Avila (177-F-94) replied with 17 points and 8 rebounds for Mexico.
5-6 Place
U.S. Virgin Islands - Jamaica 76-61
US Virgin Islands outscored Jamaica to earn the fifth overall position at the tournament. Natalie Day (182-G/F-90, college: Portland) and Tanecka Carey (175-G-90) provided 20 points each for the winners. US Virgin Islands accumulated a comfortable 46:26 halftime lead. Jamaica narrowed the gap in the second half but could not avoid the defeat. Brittney Matthews (170-G-93) had 10 points for the winners. Tashawna Higgins (173-G-86, college: Norfolk St.) chipped in 19 points for Jamaica.
7-8 Place
Guatemala - Barbados 72-53
Guatemala finished seventh as they edged Barbados in the final day. Vanessa Vasquez (182-F-83) delivered 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Guatemala posted a 35:24 halftime lead. They went on a 21:12 run in the third term to clear off for good. Krystha Cano (175-G/F-95) netted 11 points for the winners. Maria Cumberbatch (163-SG) tossed in 12 points for Barbados.
