#1. Nneka Ezeigbo, a skilled 6'2'' center who is 28 years old and graduated from RMU in 2020, currently plays professionally in Hungary. In a recent Eurocup game, she led her Hungarian team Sopron to a convincing 89-71 victory over the closely-ranked Student (0-1) team. Ezeigbo displayed her prowess by achieving a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, along with contributing 2 blocks in just 27 minutes of play. This game marked her debut for Sopron this season and was a highly anticipated matchup between two top 4 ranked teams. Despite the tough competition, Ezeigbo's stellar performance not only secured the win but also earned her the prestigious Triple-Double Badge from eurobasket.com, highlighting her as a champion player. It is worth noting that Ezeigbo, originally from Nigeria, continues to excel on the court and make significant contributions to her team's success.
#2. Experienced Greek player Artemis Spanou, standing at 6'1'' and playing as a Center/Forward, is 33 years old and an alumna of the Colonials from the class of 2014. In that year, she was honored with the All-NEC All-Tournament MVP award. Currently, she is playing professionally in Serbia. In a recent EuroLeague match, she led her Serbian team, Crvena zvezda, to a decisive victory over the closely-ranked Kangoeroes (0-1) with a dominating score of 89-56. The game took place on Wednesday night and was a clash between two top 4 ranked teams in the league. Spanou showcased her skill and experience by achieving a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds during her 31 minutes on the court. This outstanding performance was crucial in helping KKZ Crvena zvezda MTS Beograd (1-0) secure the top spot in the league, as the Regular Season had already concluded in the EuroLeague. Her remarkable contribution against the Kangoeroes, including 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists, was pivotal in her team's triumph, highlighting her as a true champion. Throughout the season, Spanou has maintained solid statistics, averaging 11.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in the three matches she has played so far. Her consistent performance and leadership qualities have undoubtedly established her as a finalist in the league.
#3. Natalie Villaflor, a 26-year-old guard standing at 5'10'', who graduated from Mt. St. Mary's in 2023 and previously played for RMU from 2018 to 2022, showcased her remarkable skills in leading Alvik Basket to a 78-67 victory over the tenth-ranked Hogsbo (0-2) in the Swedish Damligan. In Saturday night's game, she was named the MVP after scoring 25 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and dishing out 2 assists in 33 minutes of play. Alvik Basket Stockholm (2-0) currently holds the top position in the league standings, although it's still early in the season and anything can happen. This season marks Villaflor's first year with the team, and she has made a significant impact right from the start. Her exceptional performance against Hogsbo solidified her as the champion of the game, leading her team to victory with her impressive stat line. Notably, Villaflor leads the league in scoring with an average of 25.0 points per game, while also contributing 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 3.5 steals per game over the course of two games. Her individual success has been instrumental in Alvik Basket's early success, positioning them as strong contenders in the league.
#4. Spanish champion Esther Castedo, a 26-year-old guard standing at 5'7'' and an alumna of the Colonials from the class of 2022, received the All-Horizon League Third Team award in that year. She currently plays professionally in Spain. Castedo, a finalist, recently competed for Ferrol against Jairis in the Spanish Liga Femenina Endesa but unfortunately couldn't lead her team to victory. Despite her impressive performance of scoring 8 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and dishing 4 assists in just 18 minutes of play, Ferrol ultimately lost 61-74 on the road to the higher-ranked (#5) Jairis. This season marks Castedo's first with the team, and she has been averaging 4.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game over the course of three games.
#5. Greek champion Anna Stamolamprou, a 31-year-old guard standing at 5'9" who graduated from RMU in 2017 and received the All-NEC All-Tournament MVP award that year, currently plays professionally in Greece. Recently, she contributed significantly to Panathinaikos Athens' impressive 81-73 victory over the closely-ranked ALBA in the Eurocup. Despite scoring only 3 points in 22 minutes during her first game of the season for Panathinaikos, Stamolamprou's impact on the court was undeniable. This game was highly anticipated as it featured two top 4 ranked teams competing against each other. Panathinaikos, where Stamolamprou has been a key player for the past four years, currently sits at the top of the league standings. In the matchup against ALBA Berlin, Stamolamprou showcased her skills as a finalist by scoring 3 points, securing 1 rebound, and distributing 2 assists. Her performance was crucial in leading her team to victory and exemplified her abilities as a champion.
