Argentina claimed the South American Championship title. They overcame Venezuela in the Final. Facundo Campazzo (179-PG-91) scored 15 points to lead the winners. Argentina and Venezuela stayed close throughout the opening quarter. The hosts eked out a narrow 18:16 lead at the first intermission. Argentina boosted the gap in the second frame. They accounted for a 38:25 halftime lead. Argentina stretched the margin even more in the third quarter. They piled up a 58:39 lead with one quarter remaining. Venezuela could not recover in the final frame and had to surrender at the end. Marcos Mata (201-F-86) and Leonardo Gutierrez (200-F-78) knocked down 14 points each for the winners. Hector Romero (202-F/C-80, college: New Orleans) answered with 12 points for Venezuela. Jose Juan Bravo had 11 points in the loss.

Uruguay clinched Bronze medals at the South American Championship in Chaco, Argentina. They held off Brazil in the consolation final. Mauricio Aguiar (197-F-83, agency: Players Group) scored 21 points to lead the winners. Uruguay enjoyed just a one-point lead after ten minutes 18:17. Brazil denied the deficit and drew things level at 35 after twenty minutes. However Uruguay took over in the third term. The teams traded baskets throughout intense fourth frame but Uruguay held on to the lead and sealed the win at the end. Venezuela are now step away from gaining South American Championship title. They knocked down Brazil in the semifinal battle yesterday. David Cubillan (183-PG-87, college: Marquette) and Axiers Sucre (198-F-78) stepped up with 21 points each to lead the winners. Brazil entered the game undefeated but met a fierce resistance from the starting moments. Venezuela ensured a 20:15 lead after ten minutes. They stretched the gap in the second quarter. Venezuela enjoyed a 39:33 halftime lead. Venezuela cleared off in the third quarter. They accumulated a 15-point lead with one quarter remaining. Venezuela did not slow down in the final frame and rallied to the victory at the end. Greivis Vasquez (198-PG-87, agency: Interperformances, college: Maryland) had 16 points and 8 assists in the win. Vitor Benite (190-F/G-90) answered with 20 points for Brazil. Augusto Cesar Lima had 14 points in the loss.

Argentina became the second finalists at South American Championship in Chaco. The hosts held off Uruguay to join Venezuela in the title game. Leonardo Gutierrez (200-F-78) came up with 18 points to lead the winners. Argentina started the game aggressively. They rallied off to a 26:18 lead ten minutes into the game. The home team stayed in full control throughout the second quarter. They ensured a 48:37 halftime lead. Argentina kept Uruguay at bay throughout the third quarter. Paraguay finished in the fifth place at the South American Championship. They held off Chile to end the tournament campaign on a high note. Paraguay will now have a chance to advance to the 2013 Fiba Americas Championship. They need any American team to win Olympic Games to be granted the qualification ticket. Chile got to the better start. They grabbed a 21:18 lead after ten minutes. Paraguay still trailed after the second quarter. Moreover Chile managed to take a 5-point lead at the interval 44:40. The teams traded baskets throughout intense third quarter. Chile entered the final frame up by four points 67:63. But Paraguay went on a scoring spree in the fourth stanza. They unloaded 30 points and snatched a difficult win at the end. Guillermo Araujo (205-C-82) provided 22 points and 9 rebounds for Paraguay. Daniel Perez (190-G/F-84) added 19 points in the victory. Venezuela killed the intrigue in the opening quarter. They ignited a 31:10 run to leave Colombia far behind. Venezuela boosted the advantage to 24 points at halftime 55:31. Venezuela maintained it well throughout the third quarter. They ensured a 25-point buffer heading into the final frame and never looked back en route to the win. Paraguay - Uruguay 70-82
Uruguay secured the second win at the South American Championship in Argentina. They held off Paraguay to advance to the semis. Uruguay will now take on undefeated Argentina in the playoffs. Sebastian Izaguirre (207-C/F-85) came up with 19 points and 8 rebounds to lead the winners. Uruguay built their lead in the first quarter. They got to a flying start posting a 22:9 advantage after ten minutes. Uruguay boosted the gap in the second frame. They established a 48:28 halftime advantage. Chile ensured a 15-point lead with ten minutes remaining. Colombia did not surrender as they cut the deficit in the final quarter. But Chile survived the threat and sealed the winning outcome at the end. Evandro Arteaga (178-G-83) notched 16 points, while Gerardo Isla contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. Enielsen Guevara (204-F/C-82) answered with 18 points and 14 boards for Colombia. Norbey Aragon finished with 16 points and 10 boards in the loss.

Argentina are now on top of Group A at 2-0 record. Venezuela slipped at 1-1. Venezuela got to a perfect start. They unloaded 26 point in the opening quarter to take a 5-point lead. Argentina slowed their opponents down a bit in the second frame. The hosts cut the deficit to 4 points at the interval 44:48. Argentina finally pulled in front in the third term. The home team gained a 64:62 lead with one quarter remaining. The hosts erupted for 26 points in the fourth quarter to keep Venezuela at distance rolling to the victory. Venezuela clinched the first win at the South American Championship in Argentina. They defeated Chile behind 17 points from Hector Romero (202-F/C-80, college: New Orleans). Venezuela and Chile traded baskets throughout the opening quarter. Venezuela pulled ahead for a 20:17 lead at the first intermission. They took off in the second quarter. Venezuela boosted the gap and arrived at halftime up by 18 points 45:27. Chile stopped the bleeding in the third term. They poured in 23 points to narrow the gap to 16 points. But Venezuela however quickly regained control and marched to the victory in the final quarter. Axiers Sucre (198-F-78) delivered 15 points, while Jhornan Zamora had 11 points in the victory. Paraguay - Brazil 63-67
Brazil registered the first win at the South American Championship. They overcame Paraguay for 1-0 record in Group B. Vitor Benite (190-F/G-90) scored 21 points to lead the winners. The teams stayed close throughout the opening quarter. They were tied at 15 after ten minutes of action. Paraguay managed to pull ahead in the second frame. They eke out a 33:32 halftime advantage. However Brazil managed to take over in the third frame. Scoring 23 points Brazil pulled in front for a 55:48 lead with one quarter remaining.
