Brazil is the winner of U17 South American Championship in Cucuta. They
blasted Argentina 74-48 in the Finals to take the Gold at this event. It
was eight straight win for Brazil, who ended Preliminary Round with
perfect 7-0 record. Brazil was better team during the entire game. They
had 28-21 lead at the halftime and later jumped to plus 16 in Q3. Brazil
dominated under the basket as many of their points came from the paint.
Brazil also outrebounded Argentina in this meeting. Brazil had no
troubles to keep their lead and to close this game for the final 74-48
victory. Silver medal belongs to Argentina. Both teams booked a spot for
U18 FIBA Americas Championship 2012.
The host of this event ended as No.3 and won the Bronze medal. Colombia
handed 51-43 loss to Uruguay in the last day of the competition. Thanks
to this win, Colombia booked a ticket for the U18 FIBA Americas
Championship 2012. On the other side, Uruguay stays without the medal.
Colombia had great second half to take this victory.
In the game for fifth place Chile was better than Venezuela, while
Paraguay outplayed Ecuador to avoid the last place at this event.
Preliminary Round is over in Cucuta, Brazil

Preliminary Round is over in Cucuta and everything is set for the final
day. Brazil won the first stage with perfect 7-0 record and will meet
second ranked Argentina, who ended with 5-2 score. The winner will take
the Gold at this event. On the other side, Colombia and Uruguay will
fight for the Bronze. Chile and Venezuela will play for the fifth place,
while Ecuador and Paraguay will meet each other to try to avoid the last
place at this event.
Crucial game for the first place in Preliminary Round was Brazil -
Colombia. It was a Day Five and Brazil celebrated 63-53 win. Later
Colombia also failed against Argentina and because of that missed to
reach the Finals. Argentina celebrated 60-53 win in this game and
finished as No.2. That game closed Preliminary Round in Cucuta. Sunday
will be the last day of the competition.

Brazil and Colombia are undefeated after four days in Cucuta. They
outplayed all of their rivals so far, but they will meet each other in
Day Five. Only one team will stay on top after that. In Day Four,
Colombia was too strong for Venezuela handing them 78-70 loss. On the
other side, Brazil outplayed Uruguay 54-48. Also in Day Four, Chile
registered their first win at this event. They were too strong for
Venezuela 56-48. Both teams have 1-3 record now. In the last game of the
day, Argentina destroyed Paraguay 84-33. Thanks to this win Argentina
jumped to 3-1 record. Paraguay stays the only winless team in Cucuta
(0-4).
Day One in Cucuta - Jul 17, 2011
U17
South American championship started yesterday in Cucuta. There are eight
participants at this event and all are placed in one group. All teams
will play against each other and then in the last day of the competition
top two teams will play for the Gold, third and fourth teams will play
for the Bronze and so on.
Argentina had a joyful Day One in Cucuta. They cruised past Chile 67-51
for 1-0 record at this event. First quarter was pretty leveled and
Argentina ended it with 16-15. Chile replied for the next ten minutes
and teams went to the HT with 30-30 tie. Argentina took control on Chile
after the breather as they won third period 18-9. Argentina dominated in
the last ten minutes as well finishing this game with comfortable 67-51.
Uruguay had to work very hard to celebrate in Day One in Cucuta. They
handed 67-64 loss to Venezuela for 1-0 score at the U17 South American
championship. Uruguay was slightly better team in the first half. They
made 22-18 in Q1 and managed to keep plus three until the HT (31-28).
After 30 minutes of play Uruguay was 50-45 up and they kept their lead
for rest of the game.
Brazil easily beat Paraguay in Day One. It was a 69-40 blowout for 1-0
score at the U17 South American championship in Cucuta. Brazilians took
control on Paraguay from the early beginning and never looked back. They
had 14-5 and 26-12 lead. Question about the winner was decided after
three quarters as Brazil was 54-29 up. Last ten minutes were just the
formality.
The host of U17 South American championship enjoyed their first day in
Cucuta. They blasted Ecuador 74-52 for 1-0 score at this event. Ecuador
was able to resist in the first half. The hosts were 35-32 up at that
time and Ecuador was still in the game, but everything changed in Q3.
Colombia exploded and jumped 61-40 lead with 10:00 to go. It was too
much for Ecuador, who faced with 52-74 loss at the end.
