Santa Maria celebrate first ever title - Jun 9, 2014

Santa Maria clinched the Ecuadorian League title. It was the first title in the teams history. They overcame Mavort 84:71 in the return leg of the title series to confirm their superiority. Santa Maria therefore will be granted the right to represent Ecuador at the 2015 South American Club Championship.
The teams were tied at 20 after the opening quarter. Santa Maria pulled ahead for a narrow 37:34 halftime lead. They maintained the advantage throughout the third term. Claudia Pop (182-F-89) and Gisela Vega (187-C-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) helped Santa Maria gain a 59:55 lead into the fourth frame. Santa Maria did not allow Mavort to turn things around in the final quarter and raced to a comfortable win at the end.
