Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Every week we bring you a list of the top former Cougars players who continue their career in pro basketball.
#1. Phil Fayne II, a 6'9'' center/forward who is 29 years old and a graduate of Illinois State in 2019, showcased his skills in a recent game in the Polish Orlen Basket Liga. Playing for Zastal BC Zielona Gora, he played a significant role in their narrow 85-83 victory over the closely-ranked Arka. Fayne II scored 8 points in just 16 minutes of play, demonstrating his efficiency on the court. Zastal BC Zielona Gora, currently sitting in eighth place in the league with a record of 16-14, benefited greatly from Fayne II's performance. In the game against Arka, he not only scored 8 points but also secured 3 rebounds and provided 1 assist. These impressive statistics underscore his importance to the team and were crucial in helping Zastal BC Zielona Gora emerge as the champions of the game. Throughout the season, Fayne II has maintained solid averages of 7.3 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game, further solidifying his reputation as a valuable player in the league. Additionally, it is worth noting that Fayne II is a naturalized American, adding an interesting aspect to his basketball journey in Poland.
#2. Experienced Mexican basketball player Raul Delgado, standing at 6'3'' and 35 years old, a notable Roadrunners alumnus from 2014, showcased his skills on Tuesday night in the Mexican Circuito de Baloncesto de la Costa del Pacifico. Despite having played in W. Nebraska between 2010 and 2011, he now competes professionally in Mexico. Delgado's contribution was crucial as he helped lead Halcones de Ciudad Obregon to a hard-fought 87-83 victory over the closely-ranked Toros, who held an 18-22 record. In just 12 minutes of play, he managed to score 5 points and grab 2 rebounds, solidifying his impact on the court. This performance exemplified his resilience and determination, proving himself to be a true champion in the game. Currently, Halcones de Ciudad Obregon holds the third position in the league with a record of 23-17. Delgado's season statistics show an average of 2.8 points per game and 1.1 rebounds per game, highlighting his consistent contribution to the team's success throughout the season.
#3. Teddy Allen, a 6'6'' guard who graduated from NM State in 2022 and previously played in W.Nebraska between 2019 and 2020 before turning pro in Canada, unfortunately could not lead the Winnipeg Sea Bears to victory in their recent game. The Sea Bears, currently at 3-3, faced a tough battle on the road against the Mamba and were narrowly defeated 100-98 last Friday. Despite the loss, Allen showcased an outstanding performance on the court, emerging as the top scorer with 28 points. He also contributed significantly with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks during his 39 minutes of play. While the outcome was not in their favor, it is important to remember that the season is still in its early stages, and there is plenty of time for the team to bounce back and improve. In a previous game against Saskatchewan, Allen once again displayed his prowess by scoring 28 points, securing 7 rebounds, and distributing 4 assists. Despite his remarkable individual efforts, the Sea Bears fell short in that match as well. With impressive season statistics, including averaging 26.5 points per game (the second-best in the league), along with 7.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.0 steals per game (leading the league in steals), Allen has been a standout performer. His consistent high-level contributions on the court highlight his importance to the team as they strive for success in the league.
#4. Cuban Marlon Sierra, a 6'7'' forward/center aged 28, is a former Falcons alumnus from 2020. Although he played in W. Nebraska between 2016 and 2018, helping them secure the NJCAA D1 District IX Champion title that year, he currently competes professionally in the TBL. In a recent game, Sierra, now with the Glass City Wranglers, could not prevent his team from suffering a heavy defeat against the Griffins, with a final score of 138-96 in favor of St. Louis. Despite the loss, Sierra's performance was noteworthy as he achieved a double-double by scoring 18 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, and providing 3 assists in 37 minutes of play. His remarkable display earned him the prestigious Triple-Double Badge from eurobasket.com, showcasing his skills on the court as a true champion. Throughout the season, Sierra has maintained solid statistics with averages of 12.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assist per game. It is interesting to note that he holds citizenship in both the United States and Cuba, allowing him to compete as a domestic player in Cuba if he chooses to do so.
