#1. Australian champion Matthew McCarthy, a 6'9'' guard who is 29 years old and graduated from FGCU in 2019, has been showcasing his skills playing professionally in Australia. Despite his remarkable performance, the 12th-placed Waverley Falcons (5-6) were unable to secure a win in their recent game against the lower-ranked United (#17) in the South group, losing 88-99 on the road. In the game, McCarthy displayed his talent by being the second-best scorer with 16 points and contributing 5 rebounds in just 25 minutes of play. His dedication and skills were evident in his performance against Geelong as well, where he scored 16 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and provided 1 assist, although his team fell short of victory. Throughout the season, McCarthy has maintained solid statistics, averaging 12.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game in the 11 games he has played so far. His talent and determination make him a standout player in the league, showcasing his potential to make a significant impact for his team as they strive for success.
#2. Carlton Linguard Jr., a 7'0'' center and 24-year-old Don's alumnus from the class of 2025, currently playing professionally in Holland, made a significant impact in the recent match against ZZ Leiden. The game resulted in a dominant 91-68 victory for his team in the Dutch Basketball League. In just 21 minutes of play, Linguard Jr. demonstrated his prowess on the court by contributing 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks. This match was highly anticipated as it featured two top 4 ranked teams facing off. Donar Groningenis, Linguard Jr.'s team, holds a strong position in the league standings. His stellar performance against ZZ Leiden not only showcased his individual skills but also played a crucial role in securing the win for his team. His consistent contributions exemplify the qualities of a true champion. Throughout this season, Linguard Jr. has been averaging 6.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game over the course of two matches. His dedication and performance on the court highlight his potential as a key player and a true finalist in the making.
#3. Australian Joshua Kunen, a 25-year-old power forward standing at 6'8'' and a graduate of USF in 2024, showcased his talent by leading the Dandenong Rangers to a commanding 102-87 victory over the third-ranked Raiders in the Australian NBL One, the second division of Australian basketball, last Saturday. Kunen's stellar performance included scoring 13 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and playing for 30 minutes. The Dandenong Rangers, currently placed sixth in the South group with an 8-5 record, have been on a winning streak, with this victory marking their third consecutive win. Kunen's contribution to the team's success was undeniable, as he not only excelled in scoring and rebounding but also showcased his playmaking skills with 2 assists against the Knox Raiders. This remarkable display of talent solidified his reputation as a true champion on the court. Throughout the season, Kunen has been a consistent performer, averaging 7.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in the 11 games he has played so far. His impact on the team's success and his ability to deliver in crucial moments make him a valuable asset and a key player for the Dandenong Rangers as they continue their campaign in the Australian NBL One.
#4. Belarusian Dzmitry Ryuny, standing tall at 6'9'' and aged 26, is a former Beavers alum who played for USF between 2018 and 2022 before embarking on his professional career in Russia. Currently, he plays for BC Chelbasket Chelyabinsk, leading them to an easy victory over the seventh-ranked Khimki with a score of 79-61 in the Russian Superleague's second division. Ryuny's noteworthy performance included scoring 15 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and providing 1 assist in 33 minutes of play. This impressive display is particularly remarkable considering it is only his third season in professional basketball. BC Chelbasket Chelyabinsk, with a solid record of 19-8, currently holds the second position in the league standings, thanks in part to Ryuny's contributions. This recent win marked the team's sixth consecutive victory, showcasing their strong form. Despite this being Ryuny's first year with the team, he has quickly made an impact with his skills on the court. Ryuny's overall performance this season has been commendable, averaging 11.1 points, 7.2 rebounds (ranking fourth in the league), 1.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game across 36 appearances. His consistent contributions have been instrumental in BC Chelbasket Chelyabinsk's success, positioning him as a standout player and a key figure in their journey towards potentially becoming the champion.
