Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Every week we bring you a list of the top former Spiders players who continue their career in pro basketball.
#1. In the recent match against the second-ranked Antwerp Giants, Finnish player Andre Gustavson, a 6'6'' guard at 27 years old who graduated from Richmond in 2023 and currently plays professionally in Belgium, was unable to guide Oostende to a victory. Despite his commendable performance, where he contributed 13 points and 6 rebounds in just 21 minutes of play, Oostende suffered a significant 100-83 defeat on the road. Even though Gustavson emerged as the second-best scorer during the game, his notable 13 points, along with 6 rebounds and 1 assist, were not sufficient to secure a win for his team against Antwerp. As a key player for Oostende, the finalist was unable to overcome the strong performance of the opposition. Throughout the current season, Gustavson has maintained an average of 9.1 points per game, 3.6 rebounds per game, and 1.1 steals per game across the seven games he has participated in so far. Despite his consistent contributions, Gustavson's efforts were not enough to alter the outcome of the recent challenging match against Antwerp Giants.
#2. T.J. Cline, a 6'9'' power forward and 31-year-old alum of the Spiders from 2017, currently plays professionally in Israel. Recently, he showcased his skills in a dominant performance against the fourth-ranked M. Raanana team, leading his team to a resounding 96-70 victory in the Israeli Winner League. In just 19 minutes of play, he contributed 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, proving instrumental in securing the win. His team, Ironi Hai Motors Nes-Ziona, currently holds the top spot in the Places 11-14 group with a record of 9-17. With only four games remaining in the Play-Out Round, each game becomes increasingly crucial as they strive for success. Cline's noteworthy performance against M. Raanana not only helped his team emerge as the champion of the game but also highlighted his consistent contributions throughout the season. With averages of 5.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game in the 20 games played so far this year, he has been a key player for his team. It is also interesting to note that Cline holds both American and Israeli citizenship, allowing him to play in Israel as a domestic player, further enhancing his value to the team.
#3. Haitian athlete Nathan Cayo, a 6'7'' forward aged 28, who graduated from Richmond in 2022 after aiding them in becoming the Atlantic 10 Tournament champion that year, currently competes professionally in Canada. In a recent game, Cayo was unable to assist the Niagara River Lions (3-4) as they faced the Hamilton Honey Badgers, resulting in a 86-97 loss despite his commendable performance. As the game's second-highest scorer, Cayo contributed 19 points and 8 rebounds within 20 minutes of play. Although the Niagara River Lions faced a setback in their recent match, the season is still in its early stages, leaving room for potential turnarounds. Cayo showcased his skills in a previous game against Brampton, once again scoring 19 points and securing 8 rebounds, even though his team was unable to secure a victory. Throughout the season so far, Cayo has maintained solid statistics, averaging 13.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game across seven matchups. It is noteworthy that Nathan Cayo holds both American and Haitian citizenship, allowing him to play as a domestic player in Haiti if needed.
#4. French Solly Stansbury, a 31-year-old forward standing at 6'7'' and an alumnus of Spiders from 2018, currently playing professionally in France, made a significant impact in the recent game against the tenth-ranked Lorient, helping his team secure a comfortable 91-73 victory in the French Nationale Masculine 1, which is the third division league. Stansbury's impressive performance included scoring 9 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and providing 2 assists during his 24 minutes on the court. The Levallois Metropolitans BC, with a record of 26-14, holds the fourth position in Group A, and Stansbury's exceptional display in the match against Lorient played a crucial role in their success. His consistent contributions reflected his skills and determination, defining him as a true champion on the court. Throughout the season, Stansbury has maintained an average of 8.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game across 44 appearances, showcasing his versatility and value to the team as they strive towards their goals in the league.
