Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Every week we bring you a list of the top former Roadrunners players who continue their career in pro basketball.
#1. Italian Giovanni De Nicolao, a 6'3'' guard who is 29 years old and graduated from UTSA in 2019, received the CoSIDA NCAA Division I Academic All-District 7 Team award in that same year. Currently playing professionally in Italy, he recently played for Umana Reyer Venezia (19-9) in a game against Virtus Bologna. Despite his commendable effort, De Nicolao could not prevent his team from suffering a significant defeat of 98-79 on the road. In just 9 minutes of play, he managed to score 10 points, showcasing his skills on the court. Against Virtus Bologna, he once again demonstrated his ability by scoring 10 points and contributing 2 assists, although it was not enough to secure a victory for his team. Throughout this season, De Nicolao has been averaging 1.4 points per game.
#2. Deon Lyle, a 29-year-old shooting guard standing tall at 6'6'' and an alumnus of the Roadrunners from 2018, currently showcases his skills in the TBL. Recently, he played a crucial role in the Great Falls Electric's triumph over the Grant County Redtails with a final score of 109-95 in The Basketball League on Friday night. Lyle's standout performance included scoring 23 points, securing 4 rebounds, and providing 1 assist in a 39-minute display on the court. This victory marked the team's seventh consecutive win, despite their somewhat modest season record of 12-6. Lyle's exceptional contributions against Grant County Redtails not only helped his team secure the win but also earned him the title of champion of the game. His remarkable statistics for the season further underline his impact, with an average of 25.5 points per game (the third-best in the league), 9.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. His consistent performance and impressive stats position him as a standout finalist in the league.
#3. In the recent game, South Sudanese player Dhieu Abwok, a 6'5'' guard who is 24 years old and graduated from UTSA in 2022, was unable to lift his team, Tadamon, to victory against the Beirut Club. Despite Abwok's impressive performance where he scored 13 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists in 35 minutes of play, Tadamon, the bottom-ranked team with a 1-21 record, suffered a heavy defeat of 91-67 at home against the higher-ranked Beirut Club (#8). Even though Abwok showcased his skills by contributing significantly to his team's efforts, Tadamon couldn't overcome the strong opposition and secure the win. The Regular Season has already concluded, and throughout this season, Abwok has maintained solid averages of 9.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
