Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Here is the weekly review of the top performing Bears alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Malik Miller, a 6'4'' guard who graduated from Morgan St. in 2023 and currently plays professionally in Holland, recently showcased an impressive performance despite Groningen's narrow 79-77 loss at home to the lower-ranked ZZ Leiden. In the game, Miller achieved a double-double by scoring 14 points and securing 11 rebounds, along with contributing 4 steals in 36 minutes of play. This remarkable display is particularly noteworthy as Miller is only in his third season of professional basketball. Despite his outstanding efforts against ZZ Leiden, where he not only scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds but also delivered 1 assist, his team ultimately fell short. Miller's exceptional performance was recognized with the prestigious Triple-Double Badge from eurobasket.com. Individually, Miller has been having a standout year with impressive statistics. He currently holds averages of 17.4 points per game (the second-best in the league), 8.8 rebounds per game (also the second-best in the league), along with 2.0 assists per game and 1.6 steals per game (the third-best in the league) in the five games he has played thus far. His consistent high-level play is a testament to his skill and dedication as a champion player in the league.
#2. Troy Baxter Jr., a 6'9'' power forward who is a Bears alumnus from 2021 and received the All-MEAC First Team award that year, currently plays professionally in Australia. In a recent game for the Southern Districts Spartans, despite his solid performance, the team, currently in seventh place with a 4-5 record, suffered a heavy 106-84 defeat on the road against the third-ranked Phoenix in the North group. Baxter Jr. contributed 12 points and 3 assists in 27 minutes of play during this game. Against the SC Phoenix, Baxter Jr. displayed an impressive performance by scoring 12 points, securing 3 rebounds, and providing 3 assists. However, his efforts were not enough to lead his team to victory on that occasion. Throughout this season, Baxter Jr. has maintained good statistics, averaging 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game in the two games he has participated in so far.
#3. Stanley Davis Jr., a 27-year-old guard standing at 6'5'', graduated from Morgan St. in 2020 and received the All-MEAC Third Team award that year. Currently playing professionally in Canada, he recently led the Edmonton Stingers to a 104-98 victory against the Surge in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. In this game, Davis Jr. showcased his skills by scoring 15 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists in just 25 minutes of play. Despite the Edmonton Stingers holding a somewhat unimpressive 2-4 record this season, it is important to note that this is still early in the season, and anything can happen in the games to come. Davis Jr. has been a standout performer, as evidenced by his impressive stats of 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game in the two games he has played so far. In a recent matchup against Calgary, Davis Jr. once again proved why he is a finalist, scoring 15 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and providing 4 assists to help lead his team to victory. His consistent and impactful performances on the court highlight his capabilities as a champion. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that Davis Jr. is a naturalized American player, adding to his diverse skill set and experience in the game.
