Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Here is the weekly review of the top performing Spartans alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Grace VanSlooten, a 6'3'' forward who recently graduated from Michigan State in 2026 and received recognition with the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Top 10 award, is currently playing professionally in the WNBA. In a recent game, VanSlooten and the Indiana Fever, where she plays as a forward, faced off against the Portland Fire in the Women's National Basketball Association. Despite her efforts, VanSlooten's team could not emerge victorious, as they were defeated by the Fire with a score of 100-84 on the road. This game was not one of VanSlooten's best, as she only managed to score 2 points in 5 minutes of play. Although the Indiana Fever currently holds the #4 spot, the season is still in its early stages, leaving room for improvement and unexpected outcomes. VanSlooten's performance this season has her averaging 1.0 points per game, showcasing her potential to contribute more as the season progresses.
#2. Kamaria McDaniel, a 27-year-old guard standing at 5'10" and an alumna of Spartans from 2023, currently playing professionally in the UPSHOT league, was unable to lead the Greensboro Groove (4-3) to victory in their recent game last Sunday. Despite her stellar performance, the Greensboro Groove was narrowly defeated 90-87 by the Jacksonville Waves. McDaniel showcased her exceptional skills by contributing 26 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks in 33 minutes of gameplay. She emerged as the second-highest scorer in the match against the Jacksonville Waves, displaying remarkable talent on the court. However, her impressive individual performance was not enough to secure a win for her team. Throughout the season, McDaniel has maintained outstanding statistics, averaging 18.4 points per game, which ranks her as the second-best scorer in the league. Additionally, she averages 2.9 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists per game, highlighting her all-around contribution to the team. Despite her team's recent loss, McDaniel's consistent high-level performance throughout the season has solidified her reputation as a champion player in the league.
