Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Every week we bring you a list of the top former Cardinals players who continue their career in pro basketball.
#1. Spanish Carmen Grande, a 29-year-old point guard standing at 5'9" and a graduate of Ohio State University in 2019, showcased her talent on the basketball court in a recent match. Despite scoring only 2 points in 11 minutes, she played a crucial role in Azul Marino Sant Josep Palma de Mallorca's 89-83 victory over Girona in the Spanish Liga Femenina Endesa last Thursday. Her team currently holds the top spot in the league with a perfect 3-0 record in the Regular Season. Grande, a CoSIDA NCAA Division I Academic All-District 5 First Team award recipient during her time at Ball State from 2015 to 2018, has proven to be a key player for her team. Her performance against Girona, where she also provided 2 assists, further solidified her reputation as a champion on the court. Despite her modest averages of 1.0 points per game and 1.3 rebounds per game in the three games played this season, Grande's impact goes beyond statistics. As the season progresses, her skills and leadership will undoubtedly continue to shine, making her a standout finalist in the league.
#2. Spanish basketball player Estel Puiggros, standing at 5'9'' and playing as a point guard, is a 25-year-old Cardinals alumna from the class of 2024 who currently competes professionally in Spain. In a recent match, she was unable to lead her team, Gernika (1-2), to victory against Avenida (2-1) in the Spanish Liga Femenina Endesa. Despite her best efforts, Puiggros, a finalist, could not consider Sunday's game as one of her standout performances as she only managed to score 2 points in 4 minutes of play. Gernika suffered a tough 86-58 loss on the road to the higher-ranked (#7) Avenida. Puiggros did display a commendable effort against Avenida by contributing 2 points and securing 2 rebounds. However, her individual performance was not enough to secure a win for her team, and they ended up on the losing side. This season, Puiggros, a finalist, has been averaging 1.0 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per game in the two matches she has played so far.
#3. In a recent Icelandic Bonus League game, the talented champion Thelma Agustsdottir, a 28-year-old forward standing at 5'11'' who graduated from Ball St. in 2021 and currently plays professionally in Iceland, showcased her skills despite her team, Keflavik, falling short against Njardvik. Agustsdottir made a notable impact on the game, scoring 7 points, securing 4 rebounds, providing 4 assists, and making 3 steals during her 33 minutes on the court. Despite her impressive individual performance, Keflavik, which is currently at the bottom of the league standings with a 0-2 record, was unable to defeat Njardvik, who holds the #7 spot in the rankings. This marks Agustsdottir's fourth season with Keflavik. Agustsdottir's contributions in the game highlighted her prowess as a finalist player, emphasizing her all-around skills and valuable presence on the court. Throughout this season, she has maintained an average of 8.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game over the course of two matchups. Her consistent performance and dedication to the game continue to demonstrate why she is regarded as a champion player in the league.
