SPB 2025 - Superliga reduced number of teams from 18 to 14 with 4 franchise mergers

Venezuela's Superliga Profesional de Baloncesto (SPB) will feature 14 franchises split into two Conferences of 7 teams, starting on March 14th, instead of its previous 18-team setting, after its main board confirmed a total of 4 franchise mergers. Each team will play 24 games in the regular season.

Centauros de Portuguesa has opted out of this season and decided to merge the franchise with Brillantes del Zulia. Meanwhile, Heroes de Falcon decided the same and its players will now be part of Gaiteros del Zulia.

The other two merges that were confirmed are those of Diablos de Miranda (merging with Llaneros de Guarico) and Broncos de Caracas (merging with Pioneros del Avila).

Therefore, SPB 2025 will feature the following teams (14) and Conferences (2):

Gladiadores de Anzoategui
Guaiqueries de Margarita
Cocodrilos de Caracas
Marinos de Oriente
Panteras de Miranda
Piratas de La Guaira
Spartans de Distrito Capital

Central-Western Conference
Trotamundos de Carabobo
Toros de Aragua
Frontinos del Tachira
Gaiteros del Zulia
Llaneros de Guarico
Brillantes del Zulia
Pioneros del Avila

SPB 2024 was dominated by Gladiadores de Anzoategui, winning their second straight SPB title, this time by sweeping Guaiqueries de Margarita (4-0). They had also taken down Guaros de Lara in the SPB 2023 Finals.

Gladiadores was coached by Venezuelan Ronald Guillen .
