Defending champion Atletico Petroleos de Luanda (Division I) landed 30-year old British-Jamaican ex-international 212cm center Ryan Richards for the new BAL season. He moved there from Surrey Scorchers in the British BBL league where he played this season. In 15 games he averaged 12.1ppg and 4.9rpg. Richards also spent pre-season at Phoenix Brussels Basketball in Belgian Euromillions League. In 2010 he was drafted by San Antonio Spurs (NBA) in the second round (49th overall). Richards was also a member of the British international program for some years. He played for British Senior National Team between 2011 and 2018 and previously for U20 National Team back in 2011. He is a very experienced player. And here thanks to pro basketball Richards experienced life in seventeen different countries playing on four different continents. He is familiar with European, Asian, Latin American, and North American leagues. Richards has played previously professionally in Austria (BC Vienna), Bahrain (Al-Ahli and Al-Hala), China (Guangxi), Estonia (Kalev/Cramo), Georgia, Greece (AE Kallitheas), Hungary (Kormend), Iran (Gorgan, Azad, and Naft Abadan), Italy, Lebanon (Sagesse), Mexico (Soles), Poland, Spain, Switzerland, North Macedonia (Karpos Sokoli) and United Arab Emirates (Al Naser). Among many awards, Richards' team was regular-season runner-up in the Mexican LNBP South Division in 2019. He was also selected to Asia-Basket.com Iranian Superleague All-Imports Team between 2015 and 2016. |
