Flamengo celebrate the title in Managua- April 14, 2021
FINALReal Esteli - Flamengo 80-84Flamengo clinched Basketball Champions League Americas title. They nipped Real Esteli in Managua to capture the trophy. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-80. Flamengo looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Spanish-Brazilian center Rafael Hettsheimeir (210-86) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 7 rebounds. He was named the MVP. Point guard Yago Matheus (173-99) contributed with 16 points and 8 assists for the winners. Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91, agency: Interperformances) answered with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and American-Puerto Rican swingman Alex Franklin (198-88, college: Siena) added 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Real Esteli. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. It looked good early as Sao Paulo took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Minas had a 15-12 second period charge getting the lead and Sao Paulo was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 58-75. They outrebounded Sao Paulo 50-39 including 39 on the defensive glass. Minas brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American guard David Jackson (190-82, college: Penn St.) stepped up and scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Shaquille Johnson (194-90, college: Marshall, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 7 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Minas players scored in double figures. At the losing side point guard Georginho de Paula (197-96) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and power forward Lucas Mariano (208-93) scored 7 points and 9 rebounds. Sao Paulo's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win.
