U18 Argentina - U18 Colombia 56-46
Argentina had successful debut at U18 FIBA Americas for women. They handed 56-46 loss to Colombia for 1-0 record in Preliminary Group A. Participants of the same pool are also defending champion USA and Dominican Republic, but only two teams will book a spot for the Semifinals. Argentina came out strong from the start against a team from Colombia that had almost no offense in the first quarter, shooting for 13 percent from field. Magali Armesto (165-PG-95) paced her team to 16-8 lead in the first ten minutes. Argentina managed to keep the lead for rest of the way, despite Colombia came to 43-40 with 5:36 left in the game. Nine points from Micaela Sancisi (168-PG-94) in those last five minutes of play were key to giving the victory to Argentina, 56-46 against a tough Colombia squad. Magali Armesto led the winners with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Sancisi finished the game with 18 points. Argentina did not have anyone else with double digits in scoring. Colombia got 14 points and 7 boards from Laura Ramirez (94), and Diana Prens (96) stopped to 11 pts and 5 rebs. In Day Two, Argentina will meet powerful USA. Colombia will play against also winless Dominican Republic.
